Moving Back to First Grade!

Well, I am so excited to announce that I am moving back to...

...first grade! Not only will I be back on the first grade team, but I will be GLC (Grade Level Chair/Grade Level Coordinator). I am up for the challenge! Our team is different, even after just 1 school year (remember I looped with my class from 1st to 2nd?!), as 1 moved to Houston, 1 retired, and 1 is moving to 4th. Luckily, all those on this team were already at my school so I already know my entire team! It will be a GREAT year!

    Congrats! There are years I would love to loop...but I don't think some of the teachers I work with would even consider it. :-( Hope you have a wonderful year!

      Thanks! Our turnover seems to increase each year and our teachers are moved so often that it sort of just worked out. A teacher was going to stay home with her baby from the 2nd grade team so I was able to take over her classroom and my kiddos move on up. The first grade team had two new teachers come in, but now one other retired and one is moving to 4th so it worked out again. There is a LOT of movement on our campus. It shakes things up, but I also think it is a positive because it keeps things fresh. :) I hope you have a wonderful year, too!

    I've always been curious about 1st grade. I student taught in 1st and I loved it, but when it came to deciding what grade I wanted to teach, I went with 2nd. I wish I could teach halfway between 1st and halfway into second grade :)

      I always said 2nd grade was my favorite -- they are already reading and you can build upon that while going in depth a bit more. However, I absolutely love teaching phonics and seeing the tremendous growth in first. They still love learning, will let me do all the cutesy things I want, and are lovies -- because I am a huge hugger (we're allowed at our school). In fact, my greeting at Meet the Teacher is to talk to the kids then say, "Are you a hugger or a handshaker?" Then I do whichever they say. It allows them to ease up and not worry so much about their first day because they see I am friendly and cuddly! However, I have to agree that a 1.5-2.5 class would be awesome!!
